Marriage counseling at little or no cost?
Does anyone know where you can find marriage counseling at a low fee or even possibly for free?

MarriageCounseling answers:
If your marriage is worth saving, then pay the damn money…
Or just go your separate ways…

Robert asks…
If you have chosen to seek counseling for certain issues in your marriage?
but are going to be getting counseling solo at least to start, would you still seek the counseling from a marriage counselor?
And do most insurances cover some of the cost?

MarriageCounseling answers:
There are many different counselors and therapists. Here is a few, so you know more or less what you might need. Most of the insurances, don’t cover their treatment fully but partially. Good luck !
Drug counselor: Which can be anything from an assistant, to somebody practicing with direct or indirect supervision, or somebody practicing independently.
Rehabilitation Counselor: Which help people to cope with their functional limitations and locate work.
Social Worker: Licensed or Licensed Independent – work with people to overcome obstacles to success and happiness in their personal and social lives, including mental illnesses.
Professional Counselor: Independent or Supervised – have special training in counseling or counseling psychology to help people deal primarily with personal and mental-health issues, and secondarily with social actives and obstacles to success.
School counselor (whose training is often very similar to that of the professional counselor) who guides students in high schools, offers interventions for crisis and mental health issues, and assists in planning for the future.
Marriage and Family Therapists (with supervision or independently): Who focus on the family dynamics and group interactions to strengthen and improve the family situation.
Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Specialist: Who has a graduate degree in mental health nursing with special training in therapeutic interventions — often take a more medicalistic approach to the patient — most of them can prescribe medications.
Psychologist: Has a doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology — evaluates, diagnoses, and treats common and severe mental disorders — in some states they can prescribe medications.
Psychiatrist – who is actually a doctor … Went to medical school, then specialized in mental health.
Occupational: Who focuses on functional abilities and upper body strengthening
Physical: Who focus on mobility, lower body strengthening, and pain managment
Recreational: Who focus on the therapeutic benefits of “fun” things like horse-back riding, swimming, camping, arts and crafts…

Donald asks…
Where can I go to get pre-marriage counseling in Miami Gardens?
Ok…. a marriage license cost $93 and takes a total of 3 days to become valid for use in miami, but if you take pre-marital counseling (up to 4 hours) you can get a discount (i believe it will be $65) as well as an instant vaild marriage license. I was wondering if anyone knew of where I can go with my fiance to get FREE counseling. We can’t go to the court house because their hours conflict with my fiance’s work hours and he does not want to take off a number of days for counseling. Our church has a seven month counseling session so there is no way we can do that since we are getting married this month. If anyone knows where we can go to get FREE PRE- MARITAL COUNSELING SESSION (4 HOURS) in MIAMI GARDENS please let me know. Thank you!!!!

MarriageCounseling answers:
If, like most people, you are a little strapped for cash, you can possibly go to graduate schools in your area. Look up a master’s level or graduate school in your town, call them, ask if they have a counseling department, and ask what is involved. Sometimes they are free or at least at a reduced cost.
You might try some other churches. Some of the larger churches might have free counseling, but they may be a little hard to find. Call the larger ones. They most likely will have no problem if you do not subscribe to all of their beliefs.
Finally, you might try to call some area counseling agencies. Ask if they have interns or residents who are working on their licenses. These counselors often offer reduced fee counseling.
Good luck.

George asks…
Marriage counseling question?
My husband and I have been fighting an awful lot lately. Everything seems to lead to an argument. We know that we need help in order to have a healthy relationship for our sake and our 2 children. We both want to go to marriage counseling, however it seems to be WAY out of financial reach. Does anyone know how much it costs to see a marriage counselor or a way to find an inexpensive one in the Chicagoland area? Also before the idea is given, my husband and I are not religious so we do not have a pastor or someone of that nature to talk to, nor would we, because we do not practice a formal religion.
Thanks in advance!
We’ve tried to talk, every time we do, we end up fighting. We need the outside help.

MarriageCounseling answers:
Some marriage counselors work on a sliding scale (basing on your income) they may be new to the practice, which actually means they may be more aware of new therapies that are available to assist you and your husband, OR… Do you have health insurance? Sometimes your insurance may pay a portion of the cost of counseling (check under the “Mental Health” section in your insurance handbook)
BTW I am not religious either, and since many religions do not allow their clergy to marry, I find them unqualified to give marital advice.
Good Luck
