How do I fix my knee pain from Runner’s Knee?
I am a 16 year old basketball player. Ever since November 2010 I have had very bad knee pain. At first it was just slight pain, but within a couple months it hurt to do any activity. I have the most pain when running, jumping, sitting, and going down stairs. In March I took 2 weeks off to help the pain but it didn’t work. I went and saw a doctor who referred me to physical therapy, but after following the exercises that has not helped. On a second visit to physical therapy I was told I have tendonitis in my quadriceps as well as Runner’s Knee, and to take 6 weeks off and ice. I did that and just a couple days ago I tried playing basketball again but the pain came back again. Today when I played the pain was just as bad as it was before taking time off. I ice 2-3 times a day, stretch, and do my physical therapy exercises. I have foot insoles and I have tried 3 different knee braces that have not helped. Taping my knee does not help either. The pain is extremely bad to the point where I don’t know if I can keep playing due to it. Does anyone know any ways to relieve pain? By the way, I already take ibuprofen but it doesn’t help either.
Yes I have had Xrays, there’s no bone problems according to the doctors.

MarriageCounseling answers:
Have you had x-rays? You could have Osgood-Schlatter’s (or another bone-based condition)…
If it were really just a soft tissue issue (tendonitis, Runner’s Knee), rest should have made a difference…have you had a fever or anything? Blood/lab tests would help indicate if you have an infection that spread to your knee…

ATTENTION SCOLIOSIS SUFFERERS (SCROTH, BRACE, ROLFING)?
Hi,
I’ve been diagnosed with Scoliosis a couple of years ago (I’m 20 now), however after an x-ray my family doctor told me my curvature was very mild and that I should forget about it. So I did and left it untreated which was ridiculously stupid…A year a half later it has worsen and I find it hard to walk and sleep sometimes. After doing some intense research I found that Schroth is excellent in reducing curves and helping with posture… Although I know it’s a lifelong commitment, I’ll be going as long as I know the results will show eventually…This goes a long with massages (Rolfing therapy/Fascia). My questions is should I bother getting a brace(for Adults), or would it be a waste of time? I don’t have the exact numbers of my curves, probably in the low 30′s, I’m just afraid it will make my curvature worse. THIS IS THE LAST THING I WANT *panics*. Ahem. Anyway, I’m just wondering what do you think from your personal experience, brace or just do the Schroth/Physio therapy exercises plus massages? I’m just wondering what has worked best for you personally. Thanks a lot, guys! : )
P.S I live in Toronto, Ontario so if there is ANYONE you know that can help me( a specialist, treatments, people to talk to, ANYTHING) I would fully appreciate it. Thanks again!

MarriageCounseling answers:
I’ve got mild scoliosis too. I know I should be exercising, but I haven’t had the discipline to do it.
I do wear a posture brace when I’m working at the computer, to keep me from slouching. It took some getting used to, but after a couple of weeks using it, it’s been more comfortable for me to be wearing it than not. The back pain is gone and I feel less tired.
I wouldn’t recommend a specific brace because I’ve found that different folks look for different things. But yeah, I would say a brace is a pretty good investment for people like us.

HOW much should I be getting pd for this
I am a VERY experienced Certified nursing assistant.
I work privately in a in home setting. I work for a 90 yr. old and 95 yr. old.
My job is: scratching htis womens back for 1/2 an hour-45 minutes. DOING ALL housekeeping. (THEY OWN A DUPLEX) SO they have 3 bedrooms upstairs. I do ALL laundry, wash both of the couple that I care for up, do all their cares, set up Dr. appointments, go to their Dr. appointments. Order their pills, set up their pills. GO to the grocery store. Cook all meals.
-clean up the mess the girls make on the weekend that THEY don’t do. ( I do 2-3 loads of laundry/ day)
I also am now doing physical therapy (exercises) with one of my clients, among MANY MANY MORE things.
WHAT “should” I be getting paid.
Keep in mind I am a certified nursing assistant. Not a NURSE and I am passing pills, Not a therapist, yet I am doing therapy, not their family memeber yet I am feeling like it, since there dr. lives hundreds and hundreds of miles away. I do it all. I feel like their daughter.
I meant since their daughter lives so far away. I also am responsible for hiring new girls, doing the interviews. I was even made to call a girl at her other Job to see if she’d be interested in working for these people. NOT MY JOB!!
ACTUALLY a therapist came in and I DID design the exercise program!! AND THEY APPOROVED THank you. And the point is I am DOING ALL CNA skills, and the housekeeping is the extra that I have to do. I didn’t think I had to go into detail on home many times a day I wipe their ass, transfer them in an dout of bed. I said CNA work wich is pretty self explanitory. I DO ALL CARES, because the gentleman I work for cannot take care of himself at all. I do not have assistance in this I am on my own. YES he gets out of bed with assistance.

MarriageCounseling answers:
Considering your experience, I would estimate about $8-10 an hour. You pass pills, but you are not the one deciding which ones she gets, you are doing theraputic exercise, but you are not the one who has disigned her program. The other skills you are doing are not really a test of your CNA skills. You are spending more time doing skills that are beneath your pay grade (which I would otherwise put at $12 an hour based on payscale.com for top pay for a CNA). You also do not say what is their functional ability. Should they be a maximum assist/total assist transfer and need complete assistance for bathing and dressing without being able to assist you, then you deserve more.
You are playing mostly a housekeeper and a “sitter”…not things that really test your skills as a CNA. This is why nurses who work in doctors offices are often paid less because they are often doing less “nursing” and more administrative work as compared to a nurse working in a hospital.
