Charles asks…
Do you need a license in Connecticut to give Christian based marriage counseling?
A couple from church asked me to help them with their marriage. I taught them what the Bible says concerning the subject and now they come over once a week for help. I find I enjoy it. Do I need any kind of license in CT to help them and other couples?

MarriageCounseling answers:
Pretty sure you do. You don’t want any legal trouble and law suits.

Daniel asks…
What is the best Bachelor’s degree for a career in Counseling?
I know that I would like to be a counselor(Marriage and Family or School.) What would be the best degree for me? Human services, psychology, or sociology?
I plan on going to a four year Christian college then transferring to pursue my Master’s as well. What is the right degree for this?

MarriageCounseling answers:
If you’re thinking about become a marriage and family therapist, you will need to earn earn a Master’s degree in counseling with a specialization in marriage and family therapy. Furthermore, all states require marriage and family therapists to be licensed. This often requires a certain number of graduate hours earned, over 2 years or 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience, a passing score on an exam, and continuing education credits throughout the career.
If you’re thinking about becoming a school counselor, you will need at least a Master’s degree in counseling services, often from a psychology, human services, or education department, in order to work. You could get your undergraduate degree in any of those fields, as they’ll help prepare you for your Master’s program.

Robert asks…
How do I get a Christian/like-minded counselor?
I have been sexually abused in the past and I have issues regarding shame etc. I went for counseling at my college and although the counselors were very kind they were all radical feminists seeing as my school was a far-left liberal state university. I want sexual abuse counseling from a Christian perspective. For example, I like the idea of waiting until marriage to have sex with a male partner, whereas my counselors at college called me “rigid” for wanting this. They hold groups about casual sex and sex toys such as anal beads etc.
I want a like-minded counselor that is socially conservative. So how do i find one/

MarriageCounseling answers:
Contact a local church, many clergy men( like preists and ministers and pastors and such) are trained in counseling as well. However, if you contact a larger church about these resources they often have numbers and names of local counselors you can call that have a christian perspective. Remember churches are their to help you, and give you assistance, so they will probably be your best bet at a like-minded supportive attitude. You aren’t rigid by the way, perhaps the counselors weren’t properly trained in how to deal with people of values, and they should have learnt that many young girls value their virginity and see sex as it should be and therefore are going to be more distraught than girls who don’t see it in this way. Anyways, just talk to a church, you can either talk with the minister/priest/pastor or they can probably refer you to a counselor that they’d recommend… Good luck, and I’m sorry you had to deal with all this.
