Sandy asks…
Couples counseling, marriage counseling, marriage retreat in the south east michigan area…?
We live in the south east part of michigan. Like 10 minutes from Toledo. My husband and I want to start marriage counseling, and possibly going on a couples retreat of some kind, even just for a day. Anyone know of either that they would suggest in our area. Could really use some suggestions.

MarriageCounseling answers:
You might check with some churches in your area. Many churches offer marriage retreats. Most churches offer marriage counseling and often it is far less expensive than traditional counseling too. You might also check with travel agencies in your area to see if there are any groups with scheduled retreats.

George asks…

MarriageCounseling answers:
Hi Denise … At the very least you two can go to a church and ask the minister to counsel you (which will be free). Good luck on finding a counselor and to you both on a Happy New Year together ! Take care, Chip

Helen asks…
3 days of silence, couples counseling? ?
My boyfriend and I have been arguing lately and in the middle of our last argument he said he wanted to stop talking to me for 3 days. Apparently he read it on some couples counseling website. He says, whether I want to or not, he’s doing it. And if it’s that big of a deal to me, I might be obsessed with him. Does that even make sense? I think we need communication, he thinks the complete opposite.

MarriageCounseling answers:
He is wrong. And if he refuses to communicate, dump the chump

Mark asks…
HAVE YOU EVER TRIED COUPLES COUNSELING? WHAT GOES ON THERE?
I’m thinking of telling my husband that I want to go to counseling because I think we are on a path to divorce. We have no communication and we resent each other. I just don’t know if it is a waste of time, what do they make you do there? Will they make us do a bunch of embarrassing exersizes?
Any stories of your experiences are appreciated. Thank you

MarriageCounseling answers:
Honestly… I want to say, go to a marriage counselor, but, I tried that. It did not work for us because he was not willing to open up. But I spilled my guts and it was for nothing. The counseling is just communication with the middle man breaking things down so the other may understand you better, and vice versa. My ex was verbally abusive, and after years of it, I realized I didnt want our young children see or hear it anymore. I spoke up and put my foot down. He didnt like it and after that, we ignored each other for about 5-6 years. Finally ending it all in a divorce. I am now very happily married and am so happy that my children are able to experience a wonderful and loving relationship between a husband and wife. The way it should be. My husband loves me so much and is a wonderful role model for my children. I hope you two can work it all out. But if one of you are closed up and not willing to meet in the middle with the other…. It is a waste…. Just my opinion. Good Luck!!! =)
