Laura asks…
Have you ever been to marriage counseling? Does it work? How much does it cost?

MarriageCounseling answers:
It can work but only if you both want it to.
You each need to:
1. Want to work things out.
2. Still care about each other, If you don’t then it’s probably time to give it up.
3. Understand and accept that you may have done things wrong.
4. Accept that you may need to make some changes in yourself.
5. Be willing to be honest about how you feel.
6. Be honest about things that may have happened.
I know of people that have been and said that it was the best thing for them but it didn’t work for me because my now ex didn’t want to be there. Maybe it will be better for you. Good luck.

MarriageCounseling answers:
Catholic Family Services (which is an agency in my area) offers it via a sliding scale. There may be one like this in your area.
Your local church may offer it for free…
Your health insurance likely covers it with some kind of deductible or co-pay.
You have to determine which scenario applies to you…

Helen asks…
Where can I find low-cost/free marriage counseling in DFW Texas area?
I don’t have medical benefits at this time ![]()
Thanks, everyone!

MarriageCounseling answers:
Ask your pastor for a referral, and explain your financial situation. Your church probably has contacts with numerous counselors that can provide free or low cost counseling services for you. Alternatively, you can go to your pastor or an associate pastor if you’re comfortable with that.
If you don’t go to church, contact the local university. They should have a clinic for their Marriage & Family Therapy graduat level students to “practice” their counseling on. You might be able to see someone there.
Lastly, many therapists have a separate rate schedule for uninsured persons. They may charge half of their regular rate so that their services are accessible to all.
Good luck, and keep pursuing it. Saving your marriage is worth the effort!

Lizzie asks…
Does health insurance cover marriage counseling?
I’m going to call & check when I get a chance. But I just wanted to know your experiences. We have Anthem BCBS if that matters.
If insurance doesn’t cover it, does anyone know about how much it costs?

MarriageCounseling answers:
My insurance pays for a certain portion of counseling.
