quick question before I go to work?

slaveof12gods asked:

why is it that Catholic priests give counseling to young couples prior to their wedding if they themselves have never been married or even had physical encounters with the opposite sex and have no clue what it means to be living together?

how are they qualified to do this?
and what is said during these meetings?

well Id assume its to inject some sense of morality into their relationship and to remind them how to live their lives, but really it is kind of hypocritical

They have studied counseling and other things for a ,long, long time. Many priests have the equival;ent of a doctorate in social work.
AND Hell will freeze over before they discuss what is said at these meetings.

not being Catholic, I’m just not sure what they actually say…but it is possible for God to give all knowledge needed on how to go about being successfully married to someone who’s never been married…

…’cuse He’s God…

maybe to teach them what the bible says? to help them in their marriage, and make sure they know what the bible says about family/marriage etc?

or, hmmmmm, to establish a trust with the couple….to make sure the harvest of fresh young catholic boys will be sent via the priests way.

now, i’m just being naughty.

thats a good question, I know other churches does the same thing as well. we were going to renew our vows years ago and found a preacher who would do it for us, after at that time 25 years of marriage the preacher wanted to counsel us before we got married again, had already a dozen kids and all. Which needless to say it never happened..I know thats not what you asked about, but thought I would share it with everyone. back to your question, to me it wouldn’t make sense, unless they have like a guide to follow I really don’t know just guessing thats all.
